Multispectral image data can be the best source of current crop, soil, or ground cover information and together with ground observation, test data, and other site-specific information can provide valuable decision support information to operators and crop consultants. Such information is essential for timely micromanagement of within-field variability of crops. Crop monitoring involves repetitively imaging a crop’s progress throughout the growing season for refinement of management practices based on location, such as variable application of inputs, identifying stress areas, yield estimation, and a host of other techniques.
For use in agriculture or natural resource management, investment and operational costs to acquire and process image data must be kept low. The equipment and process must therefore be inexpensive, efficient, reliable, easy to accomplish, and appropriate for the application. Although current technology is adequate to accomplish these goals, turnkey products and support are not available to meet these objectives. It is for this purpose that the TerraHawk™ Aerial Imaging System was created.

It is a cost effective alternative to building your own system and offers cost reducing features and efficiencies that are not likely to be obtainable by building your own system. For instance, camera function is automated, GPS and navigation is integrated, it does not require a technician to accompany the aircraft pilot, and the system features autonomous roll, pitch, and yaw control for improved camera stability, minimized image distortion, and alignment of imagery.
